Skull Stories For Kids

FAQ

1) About the Author: Zane Wylie is an artist renowned for his intricately carved skulls, which are showcased worldwide and currently displayed at the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum in St. Augustine, Florida. Zane's creative process is uniquely accompanied by his cat Bellatrix, who often perches on his shoulder to oversee his work. He and his family share their home with six beloved cats: Bellatrix, Hermione, Luna, and Viktor (all Sphynx cats), along with Cedric and Sybil, who are feral rescues. Living in the oldest and one of the most haunted cities in the United States, Zane and his family enjoy taking ghost tours and immersing themselves in the rich, eerie history of St. Augustine.

2) Can I get signed copies of the books?:
Yes! It will cost a little extra than what you would pay on Amazon. Zane doesn't charge for his signature, but shipping costs more for mere mortals than Amazon.

3) What's real and what's made up about the cats?:

a) What cats do you actually have?: We have 6 cats (4 sphynx & 2 feral                     rescues. See pictures below.)
b) What are their names: Bellatrix (black sphynx), Hermione (Black and White Bambino Sphynx), Luna (white bi-color eye sphynx) Viktor (black and white elf sphynx), Sybil (grey and white short hair), Cedric (the traditonal black cat).
c) Does Bellatrix talk?: Not out loud, but she chirps/trills and will shoot you a look that tells you all you need to know.
d) Did you really find Bellatrix as a rescue at the fort?:
No. We adopted her from a responsible breeder although we've rescued two feral cats and arranged for over 30 feral cats to be fixed to help support the effort to curb over population.

4) Does Zane Wylie really carve skulls?:
Yes. Mostly he carves on replica skulls (then makes molds of those and sells the replicas), but will from time to time get commissions to carve on real skulls(and then makes replicas of those too).

5) Does Zane Wylie really have skulls on display at Ripley's in St. Augustine?:
YES! We're a big supporter of the Ripley's Castle. They've got great exhibits (which happen to include real skulls carved by Zane Wylie), replicas of Zane's for sale and an Awesome Ghost Investigation through the Castle.

6) Is it legal to own real human skulls?:
Yes and NO. It depends on where you live. Absolutely not in Louisiana. Some states like New York, Georgia and Tennessee are rumored to have laws that regulate the crossing of state lines with human remains. When it comes down to it, the laws are meant to prevent the trafficking of "Transplantable" human tissue. 150 year old bones are NOT transplantable.
